JACKSON, Miss. –– The Jackson State football team concluded the first week of spring practice Saturday morning.
JSU went through four days of practice this week under first-year head coach T.C. Taylor, who likes the tempo of his team in the opening week.
“Both sides of the ball are playing very, very fast, and that’s what matters to me right now,” Taylor said. “Guys are picking up the system well. We have to continue to polish up the execution.”
Several former players attended practice this week, including several from the 2021 and 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference championship teams.
“We talk about “GuardTHEEYard and #ProtectTHEEBlock, and those guys have come back to make sure things are running smoothly, and our guys are competing,” Taylor said. “They set the standard, winning back-to-back championships and playing in back-to-back National Championship games. They came out here to push these guys, and that’s what it’s about when you’re building something special.
LB Aubrey Miller Jr., DBs Isaiah Bolden and De’Jahn ‘Nugget’ Warren, RB Santee Marshall, and WR Dallas Daniels are among the players who have been back in Jackson this week.
Anytime we can get those guys here, our door is always open,” Taylor said. “They put a lot of work in here as Tigers, and it’s about one big family here.”
These along with other pro football prospects will get the opportunity to impress scouts Monday afternoon at Pro Day.
“It’s a huge opportunity for us to host Pro Day,” Taylor said. “We have a number of guys that are scheduled to come here and compete. We’ve had contact with all 32 NFL teams, so it will be a special day. We’ve opened this opportunity to all of the colleges in the state. We’re excited to use our facility as a centerpiece and display for scouts.”
